Finding water photography

Hello everyone, welcome back!

I haven’t posted in a while. Over the past half year I have been very focused on photography. I have been putting in more work behind the scenes and working on building a portfolio, updating the website, gaining new experiences, exploring different possibilities and aspects of Meerweh, and seeing what Meerweh means for me going forward.

Finding water photography

I came across water photography very randomly.

I was back in Guéthary for two weeks in October and met a friend who had gotten into water photography and had a water housing for her camera. One evening we talked about her experience taking photos in the water. I knew it was something I wanted to try.

I ended up spontaneously booking a course with It’s Only water in Andalusia. This experience was one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done. An unplanned decision that led me to something so wonderful.

I have included some photos from the workshop and our practical experience in the water.

Learning that I prefer a more minimalist editing style.

Some thoughts from this workshop and what it taught me:

During the theory portion, I learned about navigating waves and camera settings. I learned about differences in settings and light and how it all applies to my eye with the camera. I learned about tuning the camera to my preferences to get the results in color, light, and quality that I want. In the practical, I learned how to enter and approach waves, how to dive under them, and how to balance the camera and my breathe. I faced some of my long time fears of waves and pushed myself to try something that in the beginning scared me. It ended up being one of the most beautiful experiences.

I decided to come back to Morocco one town away from the town where I was staying in September. I want to take the time to explore water photography in a beautiful place and build my portfolio. I have had the opportunity to work with some lovely people and practice doing the water photography. It has been beautiful to capture Morocco in these moments and photos.

Working with blur and minimalism.

Love capturing snapshots of Morocco in the background.

I love to take photos of my friends, it inspires me.

Second water shoot with Roos from Onthewayve.

Relaxing and waiting for waves.

Perhaps my favorite photo from this shoot.

As for next steps with Meerweh, I am not totally sure where its all going. All I know is that I love sharing my photos and blogs, and now exploring with water photography.

Since starting Meerweh a year ago, there has always been room for this space to grow into whatever I want it to. Finding water photography has felt like finding a piece of the puzzle. A way that I can share what I love and how I see the world.

Thank you for being here!𓇼
