Hi I’m Annelie, welcome to the blog!

Hi, I’m Annelie:)

I want to start out with a little introduction. To write a little more about my inspirations and how I found myself here, starting this blog.

Let’s start with the basics. I am 22 and was born and raised in Seattle USA. My father is German and in early 2021 my dual citizenship was approved and I moved to Germany that summer. I have lived in a small city in southwestern Germany since then, but honestly, I am always unterwegs (just ask my flatmates).

I have had many wonderful travel adventures in the last few years and it all started when I was 18 and went to New Zealand for my gap year. During that time, I learned how to be on my own as an adult. I connected with nature and found a wonder and passion for traveling that has not left me since. After moving to Germany, I spent two years exploring and backpacking in Europe. I went backpacking up the coast of Portugal and connected with other women solo travelers, which was one of the most empowering experiences I have ever had. After that trip, I felt more confident in myself and solo travel. Last spring, I went down the coast of Croatia (one of my favorite places ever). I experienced connection with the locals and was enveloped into the culture. Most recently, I backpacked for five weeks in Costa Rica which has been by far one of my best life experiences. I learned about appreciating simplicity and just how beautiful a simple life can be. Costa Rica is truly stunning and I think often about the places I explored, the waves I caught and the people I met. Traveling is the most freeing feeling and I am grateful to have these experiences.

I find inspiration in the small and simple things in life and am motivated by the beauty I see in the world when I travel. I love the connections I make with people, the cultures I get to experience, and how in the moment I feel when I am at the beach or exploring a new place. I am inspired by ocean waves, the joy I feel laughing with family and friends, the way sunlight feels on my skin, and the taste of a delicious coffee.

I love to take photos. It is my favorite way to share the places I go to with family and friends. I also love editing and can spend hours playing with the colors of my photos. When I do my reading and research before going on a trip, I am always most drawn to and inspired by photography. My favorite travel books and guides are full of travel pictures and bucket lists from other travelers. I want to create a space that has what I look for whenever I am planning my trips. This blog will be a scrapbook and photo journal of the places I visit. I will also write little stories and moments I learn from along the way. I am not an overly active person or someone who is into extreme travel. I love to swim and hike, I love to try local food and cafes, I wander through markets, I visit museums, I go on tours, and I spend hours on the beach with my book, listening to the waves. What I am trying to say is that this blog will cover a little bit of everything, travel for all kinds of travelers.

Welcome to Meer·weh.

I hope you enjoy!

Thank you for being here!𓇼
