Photo Journal 2: a love letter to Guéthary

Recently, I have been posting photos from a place that I miss.

This place is Guéthary.

On May 20th, I started volunteering at L’escale Surf Hostel and worked there through June. During this time, I explored this beautiful little part of the world. I met wonderful people and made friends, learned more about French and Basque culture, and spent so many wonderful moments by the sea in the sun.

Photo Journal 2: Guéthary

L’escale Surf Hostel

This is one of the best hostels that I have been to and I am honored to have had the chance to work there as well. Could not recommend this place more! It really is a home away from home:)

My favorite wave, Parlementia on film.

Côte Basque on film.

Film taken of me on shift at L’escale. I successfully baked vegan brownies during this shift haha:)

A view of the town on the way for a swim.

My favorite cafe in Guéthary: Providence. I spent many mornings and afternoons here working on Meer·weh and enjoying the yummy coffee and banana bread:) Really a beautiful and welcoming place.

Views of Parlementia at low tide from the terrace. On sunny days, the water is turquoise:)

Beautiful sunsets at the port:)

Birthday breakfast at Providence.

A sunset at my favorite sunset spot. This particular sunset had a beautiful golden hour.

Film of the Port.

Film of Cenitz.

Film from Deux Lunes in Bayonne.

They also make a delicious dirty chai and the cafe is stunning inside:)

Along the walk from Guéthary to Bibam bar:)

Baked goods from Ellise on film.

Even though Ellise is not in this photo, she deserves recognition for her vegan baking and the babkas in this photo!

Thanks Ellise for all the good vibes and recipes:)

One of my favorite beaches Lafiténia, on the way to Saint Jean de Luz:)

Another Guéthary sunset, they are so beautiful.

My favorite dog in Guéthary.

I loved to say hello to her whenever passing by. She is the sweetest:)

A bit random, also a bit funny:)

Parlementia on film. Views from Pasaia.

Living room at L’escale.

Last coffee at Providence before my train to Bordeaux.

Walking to a morning swim (with a coffee of course) film :)

On many sunny evenings, we would walk to the food trucks to watch the sunset over Cenitz.

Here is a film on the way to the food trucks:)

Went to a surf and skate festival at Côte Basque and had a great time with these people:)

Sunset views with the girls at the food trucks.

A night out on film:)

Boats on the walk to the port.

Baked goods on Miriam’s last night.

My favorite little corner at L’escale:)

Walks back from the beach on film.

Film of the boats on the port.

My first sunset from the day I arrived in Guéthary.

I am still finding my way with the writing portion of this blog. It is hard to find the words to describe this experience and place. I hope that the collection of photos and descriptions can speak for themselves. Spending the time I did in Guéthary helped me to learn more about myself and the kind of life I want to lead. Not only did I get to experience working at a hostel, but I also dwelled in my creativity. I explored with my film, photos, and painting and found so much inspiration and joy being so close to the ocean and around beautiful people.

My heart is full, I will be back soon.

Thank you for being here!𓇼
